Summary: YouTube has rolled out an AI-powered age estimation feature to protect kids and teens. Users identified as under 18 will be blocked from viewing adult content and receive extra account protections.
How AI Will Estimate Age
On Sept 26 – 2025, YouTube revealed this update in an official blog post by James Beser, Director of Product Management, YouTube Youth. The post stated that, over the coming weeks, the AI model will roll out to a limited group of users in the US. This model uses multiple behavioral signals such as watch history, search patterns, and account activity — to estimate whether a user is under 18.

How Adult Content Will Be Restricted
According to James Beser, the system relies on “multiple signals” rather than just a user’s declared date of birth. These include the types of videos watched, search behaviour, and the age of the account.
If the AI model determines a user is a teen, YouTube will automatically enforce additional safeguards — disabling personalized ads, restricting certain recommendations, and enabling digital wellbeing features by default.
What Happens to Age-Restricted Content?
For users flagged as under 18, access to age-restricted videos will be blocked automatically. If the system makes a wrong guess, users can verify their age through ID or credit card.
Initially, this rollout is limited to the US, but YouTube has confirmed that a wider global launch is under consideration if the pilot is successful.

Privacy Concerns for Users
Some users may worry about privacy since the system analyses viewing and search behaviour. YouTube says flagged users’ data won’t be used for ad targeting, and they’ll get the option to confirm their age if needed.
When and Where This Will Roll Out
The feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. for testing. A wider global rollout is expected if it performs well.
AI Brings a High-Tech Twist to Durga Puja Pandals This Year

This year’s Durga Puja celebrations are set to feel very different in Kolkata. Several pandals are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in unique ways — from crowd management to interactive storytelling — giving devotees a never-seen-before experience.
Why This Matters
This move takes child safety to a new level by relying on AI signals instead of just self-reported birthdates. If successful, it could inspire other platforms to adopt similar safety models and create a safer internet experience for younger users.
