Mumbai, June 26, 2025:
In a historic first for Indian agriculture, the Maharashtra government has given the green light to the nation’s first AI-driven agriculture policy (2025–2029). With an ambitious ₹500 crore outlay, the state is setting a national precedent by betting big on artificial intelligence to transform farming at its roots.
Touted as a game-changer for India’s agrarian economy, the policy aims to use AI for predictive crop analytics, automated soil monitoring, early warning systems, and personalized farming advisories—tailored in real-time for each farmer. The end goal? Boost farm productivity, build disaster resilience, and raise farmer incomes with tech that learns, adapts, and advises smarter than ever before.
This isn’t just another digital push. Maharashtra’s blueprint includes building an AI-powered agriculture data hub, integrating satellite imagery with ground-level sensors, and deploying AI bots for pest and crop monitoring. The scheme will also facilitate training for lakhs of farmers, ensuring that even small and marginal landholders aren’t left behind in this tech transformation.
Officials believe this initiative will help farmers prepare for erratic weather patterns, market volatility, and resource scarcity, all while maximizing yield and reducing input costs.
Experts are hailing it as a bold and visionary step that could soon be replicated across other Indian states. As the world looks for sustainable farming solutions in the age of climate change, Maharashtra is planting the seeds of an AI-led agricultural renaissance—right here in India.
