India’s Capability Centres Are Now Innovation Powerhouses
In a significant shift that’s redefining India’s tech landscape, a new PwC report reveals that Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are now leading AI and R&D efforts globally. Once known for back-office operations, these centres are becoming the engine rooms of digital innovation.
From Support to AI Strategy: The GCC Revolution
India currently houses over 1,600 GCCs. These centres, often located in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Gurugram, are working on cutting-edge technologies like machine learning, generative AI, and data science. Big players like Google, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, and Walmart are all doubling down on India as their AI and R&D nerve center.
“India is no longer just executing—it’s inventing,” the PwC report states.
Talent and Tech Fuel India’s Rise
With over 3 million STEM graduates annually, India is producing one of the largest AI-ready workforces in the world. Lower development costs combined with deep expertise are pushing global firms to relocate AI strategy teams to India.
These GCCs are building everything from AI-enabled healthcare systems to predictive retail platforms, putting India at the forefront of digital transformation.
A Global Shift Is Underway
As the demand for AI-first business models grows, India’s GCCs are now central to global tech strategy. The PwC report concludes that this is more than just evolution—it’s a redefinition of global innovation leadership.
