India Gets Google’s AI-Powered Search Upgrade

Google’s latest Search Live AI Mode is now live for Indian users a feature that turns the traditional search bar into a two-way conversation. Powered by Gemini AI, this mode enables users to ask questions verbally or through text, with results appearing in real time as AI-generated summaries, visuals, and contextual links.

The update has been in testing for months in the US and Japan, and India is now among the first countries to get it. Early access is rolling out for both Android and iOS users via the latest Google app update.

What Is ‘Search Live AI Mode’?

Unlike the regular Search experience, Live AI Mode allows users to interact naturally — similar to chatting with an assistant. You can ask, “What’s the best time to visit Shimla next week?” or “Compare iPhone 16 vs Pixel 9 in one line,” and Google will instantly create an answer using AI reasoning, rather than just showing web results.

It’s also multimodal — meaning you can show an image, product, or location, and the AI will identify or describe it in real time.

How to Turn It On or Off feature for Google Search Live AI Mode Now in India

To activate it, open the Google app, tap the new “Live AI” icon, and choose “Try the new Search mode.” You can switch it off anytime by selecting “Return to Classic Search.”

Users who prefer simple, keyword-based results can disable the feature permanently from Settings → Search Experience → Live AI Mode.

Why It Matters for Indian Users

With India’s growing AI adoption and regional language expansion, this rollout is expected to reshape how millions use Google daily. The company has confirmed that Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi versions will soon follow.

The feature also underlines Google’s broader strategy to make Gemini-driven tools part of everyday search habits — competing directly with ChatGPT Search and Microsoft’s Copilot integration.
