Headline:Bengaluru Rolls Out AI Surveillance Cameras to Monitor Traffic and Crime in Real-Time
Bengaluru has activated a new fleet of AI-powered surveillance cameras across key traffic junctions and public areas as part of its smart city initiative. The rollout, led by the Bengaluru Smart City Limited (BSCL) and Bengaluru Police, marks a major upgrade in real-time monitoring and urban safety.
The AI cameras are capable of detecting license plates, recognizing faces, identifying suspicious behavior, and tracking traffic violations autonomously. Integrated with machine learning, the system can flag anomalies like over-speeding, helmet-less riders, or public disorder — and alert authorities instantly.
Officials confirmed that over 1,200 high-resolution AI-enabled units have been installed in phase one, with real-time feeds connected to a central command center at the city police HQ.
Privacy advocates have raised concerns over data security and facial recognition, prompting assurances that data will be stored with encryption protocols and under legal oversight.
With this deployment, Bengaluru joins the global list of smart cities using AI to enhance urban governance, crime prevention, and road safety.
