In a first for the Indian market, Google’s Gemini AI has officially integrated with Indian Railways’ ticket booking system, allowing users to check availability, plan routes, and book train tickets through natural language conversations. The feature, launched in collaboration with IRCTC and Indian Ministry of Railways, is now live for early-access users on Android in English and Hindi.
The integration will allow Gemini to act as a travel assistant, letting users say things like, “Book a sleeper ticket from Lucknow to Mumbai this Friday,” and receive real-time results. The system is linked to IRCTC APIs, enabling secure booking, seat selection, and even automatic waitlist tracking — all without switching apps.
Google says the move aims to drive digital inclusion and bring conversational AI to the heart of India’s transportation system, especially for users in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Support for voice search in regional languages like Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi will be added in the coming months.
This feature could redefine AI’s practical use for Indian masses and positions Gemini as a serious local contender against homegrown tools like BharatGPT and RailYatri.
