Summary – Telangana is rolling out a new digital curriculum across its government schools. From this academic year, students of Classes 6–9 will be taught coding, artificial intelligence (AI), and design thinking, with specially prepared textbooks and teacher training to support the move.

The initiative, which includes government schools, Model Schools and Kasturba-Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya’s, aims to bridge the digital divide by preparing students for a future dominated by technology.
A book on Digital Learning has been created with 15 chapters that cover topics from coding to data science, AI, digital citizenship, and design thinking. Officials have confirmed that the books will be delivered to classrooms in the last week of Sept.
The teaching responsibility has been divided among existing staff. Teachers of mathematics will be responsible for coding, data science and AI, while teachers of physical sciences will teach physical computing and AI.
English and social studies teachers will also introduce design thinking to students. Teachers are being trained to ensure a smooth implementation.
Telangana is one of the states that has made the most ambitious efforts to introduce 21st century skills in government schools. If this model is successful, other Indian states that want to modernise school education could use it as a template.
The government wants to give thousands of students, many of whom come from rural areas and are underprivileged, the skills they need to succeed in the growing digital economy of the country.
