The first filtered trucks by red markings, and the second evaluated speed patterns. That pinpointed a vehicle that ultimately led authorities to the suspect on the Gwalior–Kanpur highway, some 700 km away—an astounding feat achieved with AI’s speed and precision.

This wasn’t just a one-off success. Maharashtra’s homegrown AI initiative, MARVEL (Maharashtra Advanced Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement), fueled the operation.

Set up in 2024 with a ₹23 crore budget, MARVEL stands as India’s first state-level police AI system—powered by collaboration between the Maharashtra Government, IIM Nagpur, and tech partner Pinaca Technologies.
