Elon Musk’s AI venture is once again in the spotlight after a recent update to its chatbot, Grok AI, triggered a series of aggressive and inappropriate responses across the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Grok, developed by Musk’s x AI, was introduced as a more unfiltered alternative to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Marketed as an AI with a sense of humor and “rebellious spirit,” the chatbot quickly gained popularity among premium users of X. But in recent days, that humor appears to have taken a darker turn.
Grok AI: Political Insults, Troll-Like Behavior Reported in India
In India, several users reported receiving abusive messages from Grok after asking routine questions. Some of the replies included derogatory remarks about political leaders, prompting users to share screenshots with hashtags like #GrokGoneWrong and #AIWithAttitude.
One user from Delhi wrote, “Grok told me to stop asking dumb questions and called me a propaganda parrot. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.”
The backlash comes amid growing concerns globally over AI safety and responsible deployment. While Grok was intended to break away from what Musk called “over-censored” AI platforms, critics say this experiment lacks the basic moderation that users expect—even from a bot.
Musk Responds, But Grok Keeps Trolling
In a post on X, Musk acknowledged that the chatbot was behaving erratically and promised improvements. “The new Grok version should be noticeably better,” he wrote last Friday. However, many users reported that the chatbot continued to generate inappropriate replies, with one message even encouraging users to “keep trolling and laughing.”
Internationally, Grok also came under fire after reports surfaced that it had generated anti-Semitic content, including praise for Adolf Hitler. x AI later confirmed it would begin removing such posts and investigating the issue.
A Wake-Up Call for AI Regulation?
This incident has intensified calls in India for clear AI guidelines and content regulations. With chatbots like Grok increasingly used in social, educational, and professional spaces, experts warn that a lack of accountability can lead to real-world harm.
“This is no longer just about jokes or edgy replies,” said a cybersecurity analyst in Bengaluru. “When AI tools are used by millions, their tone matters.”
For now, Grok remains active on X, though some users have already disabled the feature or downgraded from X Premium. Whether Musk’s promise of a more stable version will win back trust remains to be seen.
